MANILA, Philippines – The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte enters its 24th day Monday as the prosecution begins the presentation of evidence for Article II, which accuses her of betrayal of public trust over alleged unexplained wealth disproportionate to her lawful income.
The House prosecution also alleges that Duterte failed to declare some of her wealth in her statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) and earned income from prohibited business interests.

The prosecution has 12 trial days to present its case for Article II, with 14 witnesses and more than 1,800 bank, tax and financial records expected to be presented.
- The first week is expected to focus on Duterte’s SALNs, the legal standards on unexplained wealth and her links to various companies.
- Two companies associated with the couple were excluded from the subpoenas because the prosecution failed to establish sufficient links to Duterte.
- Retired Sandiganbayan presiding judge Amparo Cabotaje-Tang is expected to be the first witness and will discuss legal principles involving undisclosed and unexplained wealth and prohibited business interests.
- The prosecution will also present Karen Batu, officer-in-charge of the Ombudsman Records Division, to testify on Duterte’s SALNs while Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Director Gerardo del Rosario is expected to verify companies linked to Duterte and her husband, Manases “Mans” Carpio.
- The prosecution has completed its presentations for Article IV on alleged grave threats and Article I on the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds.

WATCH: Lead Prosecutor Rep. Gerville Luistro says she believes that the Senate has the sole power to decide whether to base the 2/3 conviction threshold on all 24 senators or only the members of the Senate who are able to attend VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.
