COTABATO CITY—Former Moro liberation fighter Abdulraof Macacua, currently interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), cast his vote during the first regional parliamentary elections on Monday.
Macacua voted in Barangay Gambar, Kabuntalan town, Maguindanao del Norte at 7:30 a.m.
“I voted. I exercised my right to vote with faith in our people and hope for the future of the Bangsamoro. Let us choose with wisdom, respect one another, and protect the peace we have worked hard to build,” Macacua said.

Macacua joined the surging Moro rebellion five decades ago at 14. He headed the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces, the armed wing of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which is undergoing phased decommissioning in keeping with the 2014 peace deal the group inked with the national government.
Before taking the helm of the BARMM, Macacua served as its senior minister when MILF chief Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim was interim Chief Minister, while also serving as a member of parliament.
He left the post to become acting governor of the newly created province of Maguindanao del Norte in 2023.
