ILIGAN CITY — The military allayed fears on Wednesday about the sudden appearance of Army and police troops along the highway in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, noting it was part of the security measures for the Sept. 14 historic Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.
Maj. Diosdado Joseph Tonilon, Civil Military Operations officer of the Iligan City-based 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, urged the public not to worry as the soldiers and police forces are conducting joint law enforcement operations to secure the historic elections happening in less than two weeks.

The law enforcement operations include random checkpoints, show of force, and deterrence measures to maintain public safety ahead of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections, he said.
“We will thoroughly enhance the conduct of simultaneous random checkpoints together with the PNP (Philippine National Police), the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and other national agencies as the 2026 BARMM election approaches,” Tonilon said in a text message to the media.
The military urged the public not to panic and be vigilant about spreading unverified posts on social media platforms.
Lanao del Norte is not part of the BARMM, but it shares borders with Lanao del Sur, which belongs to the Bangsamoro region./coa
