The Traitors Season 2 Controversy: There is a very specific kind of reality-show drama that makes you stop caring about the actual reality show and keeps the discourse moving.
The Traitors India Season 2 has reached that point because what started inside Suryagarh Palace as a game of lying, manipulation and trying to figure out who was secretly a Traitor has now spilt onto Instagram with contestants accusing one another of something that is far more serious than simply playing the game badly.
The Traitors Season 2 Controversy
The accusation of “cheating” and not the “you lied during a reality-show task” kind.
The controversy surrounding The Traitors India Season 2 centres on Parul Gulati, whose bizarrely accurate instincts- her “gut feeling” helped her identify hidden Traitors during the game. For a while, this was the fun part of Parul’s storyline. She would look at someone, announce that something felt off and somehow keep landing dangerously close to the truth.
Then she was eliminated and left the game as an Innocent.
Suddenly the same “gut feeling” everyone had been talking about became the subject of a very different conversation.
Shahneel Gill posted a video alleging that an Innocent contestant had been receiving information about the identities of the Traitors through a production-assigned “shadow”. Krystle D’Souza separately made similar allegations, questioning how Parul could repeatedly identify Traitors without, in their view, providing convincing reasons.
Soon the fans raised concerns, and Parul responded with an Instagram post, “I am INNOCENT, AGAIN.”
Some fans even called the entire fiasco a publicity stunt of the show itself.
What Exactly Is the Controversy?
On August 24, Shahneel Gill took to Instagram with a video in which she alleged that there had been an information leak during the game.
According to Shahneel, every contestant is assigned a production “shadow”, essentially someone who looks after them and their requirements during filming. She alleged that the shadow of an Innocent contestant was paid to leak the information about the Traitors to that contestant.
Shahneel described the alleged situation as “match fixing” and questioned the repeated accuracy of one contestant’s supposed intuition. Her argument was basically this: if somebody keeps saying that I just have a gut feeling this person is a Traitor and keeps being right, at what point does the gut feeling stop looking like an intuition and start looking like information?
This is where Parul Gulati’s name entered the conversation. Shahneel did not name anyone, but the fans watching the season could easily connect the dots.
Why Parul Gulati’s Gameplay Suddenly Looks Different?
The thing about Parul’s gameplay was that she was not randomly throwing names but was amusingly right. That is what makes the controversy so fascinating.
During the game, Parul successfully identified Harman Singha as a Traitor, and then she turned her attention towards Krystle D’Souza the very next day. She was right the second time too, but the stars did not align, and the group voted Parul out.
Parul was confident in her suspicion that she was willing to put her own business on the line over it as she repeatedly insisted that she simply knew something was off.
This could be read in two ways: either Parul was spectacularly good at reading people, or she knew something she was not supposed to. The first explanation is what made her one of the most entertaining players of the season, and the second, if proven, would change the entire season.
The Harman Singha Clue
Parul’s first major central moment came with catching Harman. The game is designed to make Innocents work for every single deduction. They have to watch conversations, analyse reactions and remember who voted for whom and essentially become part-time detectives with terrible sleep schedules.
Parul was, however, working on instincts; “her gut feeling”. She suspected Harman and pushed the group towards him, and Harman turned out to be a Traitor. The entire situation made Parul look like the smartest of the lot.
Then Came Krystle
If Harman was the beginning of the suspicion, Krystle was the moment when things became impossible to ignore. Parul suspected Krystle the very next day she caught Harman.
Krystle has since questioned the way Parul arrived at that conclusion. In her own video addressing the controversy, Krystle said she was shocked and furious after hearing about the alleged leak. She questioned how Parul could identify the right Traitors without offering convincing reasons for the conclusions.
This is where even the show got ironic because Krystle was the person Parul was trying to expose, and Parul was herself eliminated in that “Circle of Shaq”.
Parul Was Voted Out as an Innocent
Parul’s exit was what shifted from an interesting gameplay debate to something bigger. She was voted out of the “Circle of Shaq”, and her identity was revealed as an innocent.
So the woman who had rightly identified Harman and suspected Krystle was sent home by the people she had been trying to convince. Parul, after her eviction, put out an Instagram post which said, “I’d rather go down fighting for what I believe than surviving staying silent.”
Then Shahneel Dropped The Video
This is where The Traitors stopped being just The Traitors.
Shahneel’s Instagram video alleged that a contestant had received confidential information through their shadow and questioned the repeated “gut feeling” that helped the contestant identify the Traitors.
It was implied that the alleged information was paid for. Shahneel cleared the air through an Instagram story that even the production did not know about the false practice.
It was after Shahneel’s video that Krystle D’Souza also shared her views on her Instagram video.
Other Contestants Joined
The controversy did not remain limited to some contestants. Other contestants also reacted to the allegations, including Rida Tharana, who in her Instagram story questioned the gut.
The contestants also commented on both the allegation videos from the two contestants on how shocking this revelation was.
Parul Gulati Posted
Parul’s response was not a grand explanation with a detailed flow of events or screenshots.
She just put a “This is circle of shaq all over, and guess what, I am INNOCENT, AGAIN” on a black background. She also used the hashtags “#digitalwitchhunt #iaminnocent #thetraitorsonprime”.
Is Parul a Confirmed Cheater?
No, and the distinction is important. As of now, Shahneel’s claims, Krystle’s allegations and the reactions from other contestants are still allegations.
There is no publicly established proof showing that Parul paid a shadow for the information, nor is there any official confirmation from the show’s makers that an information leak occurred. So, calling Parul Gulati a cheater would be irresponsible. However, saying that there is no controversy would be equally ridiculous.
The Irony Is That Parul’s Exit Made Allegations Explode
With Parul Gulati’s eviction, the conversation around her gameplay became much bigger. The same woman who had been praised for exposing Harman and identifying Krystle became the woman knowing too much.
We do not know yet whether the plot twist really happened.
The question buried under all the videos is perhaps, “who was the alleged shadow and who was giving her the information,” if at all the allegations are true.
Right now, the questions remain unanswered, and Shahneel has specifically separated the alleged conduct from the makers, saying the issue was about an individual allegedly passing information rather than the production team fixing the game.
Until there is evidence, these remain allegations rather than facts.
Where Does This Leave The Traitors India Season 2?
The season was supposed to be about Traitors hiding in plain sight, but now the focus has shifted to whether there was another secret game happening behind the scenes.
Shahneel says the alleged leak was effectively match-fixing; Krystle says it was unfair, and other contestants have questioned Parul’s unexplained accuracy.
Parul says she is innocent and the makers have not, at the time of writing this, publicly confirmed the cheating allegations.
