A foreign man was caught on CCTV on August 21 running from a phone repair shop in Patong, Phuket, after allegedly taking back his repaired phone without paying the bill.
TikTok user tonmai_pkt posted footage of the incident, saying the man brought his phone to the shop for repairs but did not have enough money to pay once the work was completed.
The video shows the man speaking with an employee while holding the repaired phone. He then appears to search through his belongings before pulling out a 20 baht banknote.
The employee indicated that 20 baht was not enough and tried to get the phone back. The man refused to return it and suddenly ran out of the shop. An employee chased him but was unable to catch up.
The TikTok user joked in the caption about how quickly the man ran, writing that the foreign customer had his phone repaired without enough money to pay, grabbed the device and fled.
At the time of reporting, it remains unclear whether any property belonging to the shop was taken or lost, and the man’s intentions have not been confirmed. Further information from the shop or police is needed to clarify what happened.
The video attracted numerous comments, with some urging phone repair shops to collect payment or a deposit before returning devices. Others questioned how such incidents should be handled in Phuket and called for action.

One commenter said tourists without enough money should stay away from Thailand, accusing them of causing problems for others. Another called for the man’s visa to be revoked and his embassy to be notified.
