Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 12 Review

What is the household situation of Tadera?
Yuru and the Tadera’s brother, Ken, are getting along pretty well. Ken even compliments Yuru on his arrow-making skills and asks him to train him because he wants to become stronger. Yuru agrees, perhaps because he has started to see Ken as his little brother. On the other hand, Hana has become far more accepting of Ken as a part of her family and only worries whether they will be able to take care of the children properly or not.
Why does Makoto come to the Kagemori clan house?

Makoto arrives with her two daemons because of Jin. He had asked her to investigate the situation of the missing gate that she claimed was there before, but is not there anymore. Jin and Makoto, along with Gabby and Asa, go to the wall where the gate was supposed to be. There, they see 2 clear lines indicating that somebody had cut the wall and then mended it so that nobody could suspect anything.
What is up with Asuma?
Asuma goes to meet his uncle, Shingo. From their conversation, it becomes clear that Shingo is not a part of the main family branch anymore. He also claims that he would never enter the home without his daemons or protection. He’s also the one who spearheaded the attack on the twins. Here, Shingo reprimands Asuma for letting Yuru escape from his grip. He also calls Asuma useless, as his mother, something that Asuma did not like. He then goes away while leaving a butterfly behind so that he could spy on Shingo. However, the butterfly gets cut by a sword-wielding mystery man.

What is the next mission for Yuru?
Yuru finds out about the address of his grandmother’s home, where his parents went to visit and vanished. On the other hand, we get to know that whenever the grandmother calls Asa, she says the same things again and again. She tells her how much she misses Asa and requests that Asa come and meet her. Asa understands that something is wrong with her grandmother, and we get to see that she is being controlled by some daemons.
Why did Yuru want to meet his grandmother?

Yuru wanted to meet his grandmother because he had never seen anyone from his mother’s family, and this fascinated him. However, Tadera told him just how dangerous this can be for him because his parents also went missing when they tried to visit his grandmother.
What was the best aspect of this episode?
The storyline thickening was something that I definitely preferred. However, I also enjoyed the introduction of a new character called Ivan. He’s the same strange guy who constructed the gate at the Kagemori Manor. He hides himself very skillfully and enters the village only to start massacring people left and right.

What worked and what did not work?
This episode was a noticeable improvement over several of the earlier ones. The story is taking its time to develop, which explains why it has not yet reached its best parts. Even so, it continues to demonstrate why it stands out as one of the stronger shonen series.
