MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday warned the public against unauthorized assistance for voter certification, emphasizing that registered voters can obtain the document for free.

This came after the Comelec flagged a Facebook user named “Mheay Sta Ana” who reportedly charged a client from Taipei, Taiwan for processing an overseas voter certification for P1,800.

From a screenshot shown by Comelec, the Facebook user posted supposed documents bearing information of her client and the logo of the poll body.

“COMELEC clarifies that this Facebook account and the individual behind this is NOT CONNECTED AND IS NOT AUTHORIZED by COMELEC and Office for Overseas Voting,” Comelec posted in an advisory.

“VOTER CERTIFICATION is issued for free for all registered voters, local or overseas,” it added.

The poll body advised the public to avoid transacting with the Facebook user and to avoid engaging in any suspicious activities online that ask for their personal and sensitive information.

It added that the public can directly transact with the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila or any Comelec field offices in their areas.

The regular issuance of voter certification is from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To apply for a voter certification, the registered voter must go to the Office of the Election Officer of the area where they are registered or to the Comelec – National Central File Division at FEMI Building in Intramuros, Manila.

They must bring one valid I.D. /apl
