A durian sorting warehouse owner in Chanthaburi was accused of sexually assaulting more than 20 female employees, but victims’ police complaints have not progressed.

The Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, Thanakrit Chit-areerat, received complaints from representatives of the victims and accompanied them to lodge the complaint with relevant agencies yesterday, August 26.

According to a report on Channel 8, the owner, identified only as Mor, usually recruited young women aged 15 to 20 to the packing house, and the representatives of victims claimed that more than 20 women fell victim to the sexual abuse.

One of the victims shared that she worked as a clerk at the warehouse for four days before the assault took place. The owner drove her towards work but detoured to a resort, saying he wanted to rest for a short period.

The victim said the employer then emerged from a shower wearing only a towel and offered her 1,000 baht for sex. He then touched her private parts, leading her to scream for help.

According to the woman, the employer ordered her to lower her voice and keep the incident secret. She managed to escape from rape, but he threatened her not to file a police complaint. If not, he would fire her, withhold her wages, and kill her.

She then brought the matter to Mor’s wife. Unfortunately, the wife asked her not to pursue the matter, citing concern that other employees would lose their jobs.

According to the report, Mor would take each victim to resorts using multiple excuses and tricks. Some of the victims were molested, while many others were raped.

Mor then threatened them into silence, and his wife usually negotiated cash payments to buy their silence and force complaints to be withdrawn.

Thanakrit said he was coordinating with local provincial police to gather evidence and pursue the case. He also said he would arrange psychological care for the victims.

As of publishing, no public statement has been issued by the durian warehouse owner or his wife.
