MANILA, Philippines — More than 10, 000 military personnel had been deployed in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said amid final preparations for the Sep. 14 parliamentary polls.
During the Regional Security Conference with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) at Maguindanao del Norte on Wednesday, Army Chief Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran presented the AFP’s comprehensive security measures for the region’s first-ever parliamentary polls.
At least 10,031 soldiers were stationed across the election areas in BARMM, according to the AFP.

These include augmented units from the 28th Infantry Battalion, 1st Scout Ranger Battalion, Task Force 92 of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, Special Team from Civil Military Operations Regiment, ATMOS Artillery Battery, and the 75th Infantry Battalion.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has previously authorized the deputation of the AFP, the PNP, and other concerned government agencies for the elections under Memorandum Order No. 48.
The election period began last July 16, when the gun ban and checkpoints also took effect and will remain in place until Sept. 29.
AFP chief of staff Gen. Antonio Nafarrete reaffirmed the army’s support to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the historic parliamentary elections in the region.
“To our Comelec and all our partners, you have the full support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Nafarrete expressed. /das
