MANILA, Philippines — Reprinted official ballots for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao parliamentary elections will be distributed in certain precincts in Maluso, Basilan early Tuesday morning following the discovery of compromised and pre-shaded ballots.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia shared this development on Monday evening as polling precincts in many areas in the region already closed.

“Mamayang madaling araw ay ito ay ididistribute sa electoral board members natin,” Garcia said in a press briefing.
(We will distribute the ballots to our electoral board members on early Tuesday morning.)
Garcia reiterated that it will just be a continuation of the elections and not a postponement.
Garcia earlier said that the ballots in 36 out of 68 polling precincts in Maluso in Basilan were already pre-shaded.
The Comelec then ordered the reprinting of around 16,000 ballots in the National Printing Office.
Garcia noted that from the original estimated time of arrival of the ballots from Manila to Zamboanga was delayed by two hours.
Meanwhile, Garcia clarified that winners can already be proclaimed on late Monday evening in other areas not affected by the incident in Maluso town. /gsg
