Synopsis
Just before the Spring Festival, Yang Fanyan, working in Shenzhen, receives a call from her brother Yang Fanhu, asking her to return home early to help solve a tricky problem: Fanhu’s daughter Yang Xiaofang is dating Qi Xiaowei, a young man from the same village, and has become pregnant before marriage. The marriage talks fall apart, and Xiaofang is at risk of not getting married at all. However, her pregnancy is already far along and the baby is about to be born, leaving her unsure of what to do. Fanyan returns to the village and tries to negotiate with the Qi family but fails. News spreads that Xiaofang has been “dumped.”
Soon, matchmakers come knocking one after another. Single men from miles around do not mind that Xiaofang is pregnant and rush to take over the situation. The Yang daughter is still considered a catch. As Xiaofang nears delivery, she faces tough choices: reconcile with Xiaowei, marry someone else, or stay single? Should she give the baby to the father’s family, raise it herself, or send it away to another place? Fanyan becomes overwhelmed dealing with Xiaofang’s situation. Slowly, she discovers that those around her all seem to have hidden secrets—and, directly or indirectly, each is connected to the baby in Xiaofang’s womb.
In the end, Yang Xiaofang chooses to live independently. She devotes herself to her hometown’s herbal medicine industry and achieves financial independence.
