Residents in Loei restrained a monk after he allegedly entered a woman’s home and molested her while she was alone today, August 23, prompting her to scream for help.
Police were called to a house in Ban Phoem subdistrict, Pha Khao district, after residents reported that a man dressed as a monk had climbed into the home of a young woman and attempted to sexually assault her.
When officers arrived, they found residents surrounding the man, who had been restrained with rope around his hands and feet. He was wearing a monk’s lower robe and a T-shirt.

The woman, identified only as 18 year old A, was found inside the house. She told investigators that she had been home alone when the man, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, entered the house.
The woman said he approached and molested her, prompting her to scream for help. Her aunt, who was next door, heard her cries and came to her aid. Nearby residents also rushed to the house and helped restrain the man before police were called.

The man was identified as monk Chalermchai, who was based at a forest monastery in Ban Phoem subdistrict, Pha Khao district.
During questioning, Chalermchai reportedly admitted taking yaba (methamphetamine) before going to the woman’s home and committing the alleged act.
Officers subsequently took Chalermchai to be defrocked before conducting a urine drug test, which returned a positive result indicating drug use. Chalermchai was then handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings.
