Pattaya City Police Station has honoured members of its investigation team for their work in solving the murder of a 17 year old Thai woman, allegedly at the hands of an Australian national.
Pattaya City Police Chief Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyou presented awards to Pol. Lt. Col. Suradet Imjai and Pol. Lt. Col. Thanet Saenghirun, who represented the wider investigative team, in recognition of their role in the case.
The case began on June 25, when 17 year old Thanchanok ‘Cake’ Donhomla was seen entering a condominium in the Jomtien area with Australian national Simon Peter Carman in the early hours of the morning.
CCTV footage later showed Carman leaving the condominium alone, carrying a large suitcase which he transported by motorcycle, police said.
Thanchanok was subsequently reported missing, and her body was found inside the suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya two days later.
Police arrested Carman at Suvarnabhumi Airport as he prepared to leave Thailand and charged him with murder and other offences. He has denied the murder allegation, claiming he acted in self-defence.
Forensic evidence reportedly included DNA collected from Carman that matched DNA found on the victim. An autopsy found that Thanchanok had suffered a brain injury and died from suffocation.
Anek praised the investigation team for its determination and professionalism in tracing the victim’s movements, examining evidence and locating the suspect.
Police said the investigation was nearing completion, with the case file expected to be submitted to prosecutors soon. The recognition ceremony was intended to acknowledge the investigators’ work and boost morale among officers responsible for preventing and solving serious crime in Pattaya.
Anek said effective investigative work remains essential to maintaining public safety and confidence among residents and tourists in the city.
