A Thai Airways flight bound for Bangkok was forced to turn back to Frankfurt yesterday after declaring an in-flight emergency over a landing gear fault.
Flight TG921 departed Frankfurt Airport in Germany at 12.34pm local time on its scheduled route to Bangkok. Around thirty eight minutes into the flight, the crew transmitted a squawk 7700 signal, the international code used to alert air traffic control to a general emergency.
The aircraft circled back and landed safely at Frankfurt Airport at 2.11pm local time.
Images circulating online reportedly showed the left main landing gear had failed to retract after take off, which prompted the crew to abort the journey and return for an emergency landing.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew, and the aircraft landed without further incident.
Thai Airways has not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the fault or on rebooking arrangements for affected passengers.

In another separate news, Bam Thanrungrueangchai has become Thai Airways’ first female pilot, flying her debut commercial service on June 1 along the Bangkok to Hanoi route. The airline confirmed the milestone via its official Facebook page, noting it comes after 66 years of operations without a female pilot on staff. Bam trained at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and the Asia Aviation Academy, then spent four years flying as an Airbus A320 co-pilot before joining Thai Airways. Company executives attended her inaugural flight. Online reaction was largely positive, though some commenters pointed out that women have piloted for other Thai airlines for years.
