MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has allowed teachers serving as electoral board members to avail of their service incentive credits any time after the conduct of elections.
This is in line with the Comelec Resolution No. 11212-A promulgated on Tuesday.
The development is an amendment of the Section 5 of Comelec Resolution No. 11212 which states that the service credit for the special elections, plebiscites or recall elections must be availed within three months from the date of the elections.

The Comelec also said it acknowledged the concerns raised and consultations undertaken with teachers and members of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Party-list with the Department of Education.
“For NLEs [national and local elections], BSKEs [Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections], and BPEs [Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections], special elections, plebiscites, initiatives, referenda or recall elections, the service credit may be availed of at any time after the date of the election or electoral exercise,” the new resolution read.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia on Wednesday said that teachers rendering their service on NLEs will receive 10-day service incentive credits, while those serving as electoral board members for special elections, plebiscites and recall elections will receive five days worth of service credit.

“Because it can’t be monetized, at least the teachers can enjoy the credit,” Garcia noted during the Kapihan sa Manila Hotel forum.
He also mentioned that the Comelec has granted an across-the-board honoraria worth P3,000 to teachers who will serve in the first BPE on September 14, 2026.
He said the poll body acknowledges the service the teachers give during elections. /apl
