The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned of heavy rain in several areas over the next 24 hours, driven by a monsoon trough crossing the upper North and northern Laos, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying land are urged to stay alert for flash floods and runoff.
North
Thunderstorms will cover 70% of the North, with heavy falls in isolated spots across Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Uttaradit and Phitsanulok. Minimum temperatures will range from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius (°C), with highs of 30 to 36°C. Southwest winds will blow at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
Northeast
Storms will affect 60% of the region, with heavy rain possible in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan. Temperatures will range from 23 to 24°C at the low end and 30 to 35°C at the high end. Winds from the southwest will reach 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
Central
Rain will cover 60% of the Central region, with heavier falls expected in Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi. Lows of 23 to 25°C and highs of 34 to 35°C are forecast, with southwest winds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
East
Thunderstorms will hit 60% of the East, with heavy rain possible in Nakon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chanthaburi and Trat. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C overnight to 31 to 34°C by day. Southwest winds of 15 to 30 kilometres per hour are expected, with sea waves around one metre, rising above two metres in thunderstorm areas.
South East Coast
Storms will cover 40% of the eastern side of the South, mainly in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Yala and Narathiwat. Lows of 23 to 26°C and highs of 33 to 36°C are expected, with southwest winds of 15 to 30 kilometres per hour and seas around one metre, higher than two metres during storms.
South West Coast
Heavy rain is forecast for 60% of the western side of the South, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga and Phuket. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26°C at night to 32 to 36°C during the day. From Phang Nga northward, southwest winds of 15 to 35 kilometres per hour will bring waves of one to two metres, rising above two metres in thunderstorms. From Phuket southward, winds will ease slightly to 15 to 30 kilometres per hour with waves around one metre.
Bangkok and Vicinity
Storms will cover 60% of the capital and surrounding areas, with lows of 25 to 27°C and highs of 33 to 35°C. Southwest winds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour are expected.
Sea Conditions
The Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will see moderate winds. Upper Andaman waters will see waves of one to two metres, while the lower Andaman and Gulf of Thailand will see waves around one metre, both rising above two metres in thunderstorm areas. Sailors are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas of active thunderstorms.
