MANILA, Philippines – The Senate impeachment court enters the eighth day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial on Tuesday, with National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag expected to take the witness stand as the prosecution concludes its presentation of evidence under Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment.

- Matibag is set to testify on the NBI’s investigation into Duterte’s alleged grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
- His appearance comes a day after the impeachment court granted the prosecution’s request to subpoena Duterte’s bank, tax, and Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) records in a key ruling related to the unexplained wealth charge under Article II.
- The House prosecution panel earlier withdrew eight other witnesses for Article IV, citing redundancy and the need to speed up the proceedings.
- The defense is expected to cross-examine the NBI chief.
- Senators may question the witness following the direct and cross-examinations.
