Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7 Review: A Fun Task Tries to Save an Otherwise Uneventful Episode

Following the drama in episode 6, featuring Kangana Ranaut, who had quite a few scathing things to say about some of the contestants, Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7 focuses on an intense task, but with a lot of complaining surrounding it that will leave viewers with a few annoyances. With an unexpected crisis looming overhead, the contestants decide to do a hunger strike instead of compromising in some way and work with the hand that they have been dealt. With Ritesh Deshmukh playing the referee and trying to appease Ram Kapoor and Sunita Ahuja, things take a rather unnecessarily dramatic turn.

Most of the house feels like it’s stuck at one place, but with a surprise new face making an entrance, things might just look up from here on out.

Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7 Review

The House Nearly Loses Two Contestants Before the Week Even Begins

Most of the episode focuses on Ram Kapoor and Sunita Ahuja trying to pull an uprising, hoping for the game to supply food to everyone after they spent all of their money for the week. Despite clear instructions, they were unable to plan ahead, leaving very little money for everyone. After spending one night without food, both Kapoor and Ahuja desperately ask Ritesh to send them hope, having not anticipated the mental fortitude required to spend a month in jail.

A surprisingly big chunk of the episode is spent trying to convince both Kapoor and Ahuja to stay, wherein Ritesh coddles them both and reminds them of their positive qualities. It’s a bizarre watch, one that makes viewers wonder whether any of these contestants had understood the rules or the point of the game. After a while, it doesn’t feel like compelling television, but rather a bunch of immature kids trying to fight a losing battle. Viewers will wonder many times as to why any of these people signed up for the show if they expected to cruise through it, considering this is the second season!

The Weekly Task Finally Brings Some Much-Needed Energy

Thankfully, the weekly task is quite interesting but feels cut down to accommodate the unnecessary mollycoddling. The team challenge requires the players to work together and find as many diamonds as possible from underneath the “coal” and deposit them two at a time. Of course, there are obstacles along the way, making for a spirited watch. The chemistry among the contestants will give viewers hope that there’s hope for future episodes. Plus, the stakes feel tangible because the housemates give their all to earn money for the week.

At the end, the housemates are able to gather all the diamonds, accounting for a staggering amount of money for food. The segment is a reminder that it’s the tasks that make shows like these so enjoyable, as we are able to see the chemistry between the contestants and their performances as well. This is the strongest segment of the episode and is a welcome change from the incessant complaining and fighting that these people engage in for hours.

The Conflicts Continue to Feel Familiar

Of course, the episode isn’t without its conflicts. Contestants fight at the drop of a hat at any given moment. While resident ‘kaleshi’ Shreya Kalra takes a backseat after her conversation with Kangana in episode 6, Harshad Chopda, for some reason, has a huge argument with Varun Yadav after the task. The context of the argument is extremely confusing and, for viewers, it might even seem completely unnecessary. However, the magnitude of the pushback is bizarre.

It’s clear that Chopda is taking his accusations seriously and has taken it upon himself to fight them tooth and nail. As he angrily paces here and there while screaming, viewers can’t help but wonder whether they are mixing something in the water for even mild-mannered contestants to behave like this. At this point, another shouting match without a proper cause feels shallow and, frankly, boring.

Shreya Kalra Faces the Consequences of Episode 6

Coming to Kalra, episode 6 showcases her in a surprisingly different light, wherein she mostly apologises to everyone for divulging Akanksha Chamola’s secret. She attempts to repair damaged relationships as viewers see her mostly keeping to herself. While Chamola refuses to budge on not speaking to her, Shivangi is more open to reconciliation. Meanwhile, Madhuri ji reminds her of what Kangana Ranaut had told her in episode 6, that taking a stand is fine but not when she isn’t able to cut off at the right time.

Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7: Shreya Kalra

I found this situation interesting, as, for once, the series doesn’t overdo Kalra’s consequences with a dramatic and emotional outburst. The consequences are quiet, and although viewers will question whether or not her intentions are correct, at least it doesn’t take up the entire episode.

Riyaz Aly Finally Opens Up, But the Emotional Moment Lacks Weight

There’s a small section in the series wherein Riyaz Aly is seen having a breakdown after everyone has gone to sleep. After Kangana Ranaut called him out on his passive behaviour, even going as far as to question whether his huge number of followers are bots, he breaks down at not being able to make an impact in the show. What should have been a vulnerable and heart-touching moment turns out to be rather forgettable and boring as, here too, Aly is unable to create an impact. After not seeing anything from him for 6/7 days, it’s hard to feel sympathetic for someone we don’t know anything about.

A Surprise Entry Ends the Episode on an Intriguing Note

Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7: Shilpa Shinde

However, the most interesting thing that the show leaves us with is Shipa Shinde’s entry. After having a conversation about her allegedly falsely accusing her producer of sexual assault 10 years ago, seeing her in front of them has to be shocking. And, as the sneak peek teases, it’s going to bring about a lot of unrest. Of course, that’s a good and bad thing. It’s great for TRP, but the arguments tend to get very nasty on the show, with people spewing hatred and personal insults at each other. I am unsure how that will work out to keep things fresh.

Final Verdict

Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7: Yogesh Rawat, Akanksha Chaudhary
Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7: Yogesh Rawat, Akanksha Chaudhary

The weekly task is the best thing about Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 7. The challenge keeps things moving, despite it getting a surprisingly short amount of time allocated to it. Everything surrounding it is quite repetitive and doesn’t provide anything new in terms of entertainment. There’s simply no build-up in the episodes, since it’s hard to call regular, explosive fights among adults the emblem of maturity. Of course, I might be expecting way too much from a reality TV show, but writing it off as slop and not expecting some shred of maturity doesn’t sit right as well. Either way, here’s hoping for stronger episodes with a focus on the tasks and contestants’ camaraderie.
