The 100 Girlfriends Season 3 Episode 1 Review

Do we jump right into finding the next girlfriend of Rentaro?
No, this episode begins with the God who originally gave Rentaro 100 soulmates in the very beginning. He gives us a rundown of what happened and how many girlfriends we got introduced to till now. However, he also shows 2 new girls whom we have not seen before. Even God was surprised after seeing the two entries and asked who they were. In a classic Hyakkano manner, we hear another voice, most likely the director, questioning whether they have screwed up with the final edit. God reminds the director that the anime has only gotten to 11 girlfriends. This back and forth definitely showed us just how funny this season is expected to get.

Do we meet all the girlfriends of Rentaro?
After that, we see an interviewer going around searching for people on the street and asking them about their relationships. She obviously stumbles upon Rentaro’s girlfriends and, without understanding that they all have the same boyfriend, asks them what their boyfriend has recently done to make them feel special. This exchange again leads to some hilarious interactions as we hear just how extreme Rentaro can be in his display of affection.
What are some examples of Rentaro going above and beyond for his girlfriends?
The first one to answer this is Hahari, who reveals how, when she was on a date with Rentaro, he helped her because her heels broke. She revealed that he carried her in his arms for the rest of the date.

That was not all; just to keep up with Shizuka’s intense interest in reading, Rentaro memorised a bunch of books and scribbled notes on his entire body. He even went as far as scribbling stuff on his ears.
Were there many funny moments?
This episode was filled with funny moments, and one of the most hilarious segments was when they kept showing new characters without even giving the audience any idea as to who they were because they hadn’t been introduced yet. God himself breaks the fourth wall and becomes extremely mad at the director for showing these two characters repeatedly.

Do we get to meet Rentaro’s next girlfriend?
Yes, we finally meet a new addition to Rentaro’s harem, and this one is none other than Rentaro’s own cousin. Even Rentaro asked the production team whether they’re going down that route.
Who is Chiyo?
Chiyo is a serious bespectacled girl who hates anything that is not in order. Her constant urge to keep everything in order becomes a running gag after she gets introduced. Her need to be responsible for everything also brings her closer to Rentaro. He becomes the only one who tells her to take it easy and recognises how hard she works.

What worked and what did not work?
The comedy works because the series never takes itself too seriously. Every over-the-top scenario and ridiculous moment is presented as part of the parody, not something meant to be taken seriously. If you don’t overthink it and just enjoy the humour, you’ll have a great time with the show.
