Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 13 Review
What kind of daemons does Ivan use?
Ivan uses 2 daemons who reside in his twin swords. One is called Shokyo, and it is an arrogant little thing that calls itself Ivan’s master. It even tells the swordsman to refer to him as Lord and request him to go with Ivan. On the other hand, there is another daemon called Daikyo, which remains mostly silent. Even Ivan asks the two swords why they are so haughty when they can’t even move without the help of a master.
What happens after Ivan enters the village?
Ivan creates a space for himself, then transforms his location to the Shaman’s belly. After that, he began massacring everyone mercilessly. It was something that we saw in the previous episode. However, we do witness that he was trying to find a particular someone. Then we see that the person whom he was looking for was none other than the fake Asa, who was pretending to be Yuru’s sister.
What does Ivan want from the fake Asa?
Ivan assumed that the grandmother was the daemon Asa’s original master and threatened to kill the grandmother to kidnap her. He tells her that if she does not come with him, he will make her a stray daemon, and she would then have to roam around. Not only that, but he also needs her face; that is why he kidnaps her along with another village girl so that he can utilise them as leverage on Yuru.
What kind of character is Ivan?
Ivan came off as a very cruel and merciless character who did not think twice before killing innocent people left and right. The normal villagers are not able to see daemons. Still, Ivan killed them just because they were standing in front of him. Other than that, he also had no issues kidnapping a small girl just because he could. However, we must accept that he is one of the strongest characters of this series. It would definitely be interesting to see him fight the siblings.
What did he plan to do with Yuru?
After killing the shaman mercilessly, Ivan wrote a message on his chest. He threatened Yuru to come to him, otherwise he would do something to his fake sister and the little girl whom he kidnapped from the village. Hana gets to see the writing, and even though she wanted to live a very normal life, she realises that she might not be able to do that anymore.
What worked and what did not work?
This episode showcased a lot more depth than the other episodes from the first cour. Ivan as a character is also far more interesting than others we have seen. The series lacked an interesting villain from the very beginning; now we have one. Ivan’s nonchalant attitude and penchant for violence are something that will definitely make the storyline more interesting. Plus, he’s also great with swords, so the action sequences were also excellent.
