Bangkok’s weekend does not have to begin with shopping, brunch or another trip around an exhibition hall. Saturday morning offers a chance to spend a couple of hours cleaning one of the city’s canals, while the rest of the weekend moves through Isan food and culture, board games, printmaking and a community gathering built around sharing a meal.
Most of this week’s choices are free as well. There are activities for people who want to make something, play something, eat something or simply put a few hours towards making part of Bangkok a little cleaner.

Lat Phrao Canal Cleanup Day

This Saturday morning starts with something more useful than the usual weekend activity. Get Lost in Volunteer & Beyond is organising a two-hour cleanup along Lat Phrao Canal, bringing volunteers together to remove rubbish from one of Bangkok’s public waterways. No previous volunteering experience is required, and gloves are provided.
The group meets at Airport Rail Link Ramkhamhaeng Station at 8.40am before travelling to the canal. After a short introduction and safety briefing, the cleanup begins at around 9.30am and wraps up before 11am. The activity is also listed as being co-hosted with Bangkok’s Department of Drainage and Sewerage.
Anyone joining should wear casual clothes that can get wet or dirty. If you are interested in participating, check the event page and contact them to get a chance to contribute to a cleaner environment.
ISAN UNBOXED FEST: Feel More ISAN

Museum Siam is spending the weekend looking northeast as ISAN UNBOXED FEST brings food, crafts, music, wellness and travel ideas from Isan into the centre of Bangkok. Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s northeastern region, the festival is built around six zones covering everything from regional food and handmade products to travel deals and contemporary Isan culture.
The food area mixes traditional dishes with newer interpretations, including restaurants recognised by the Michelin Guide, cafés and food trucks. The craft section focuses on community products, textiles and handmade goods, with workshops including keychains, bracelets and items made from local cotton. Live Isan folk music, cultural performances and travel talks fill out the programme.
There is also an active side to the festival. On Saturday, August 29, the City Run & Sunset Run takes runners around Rattanakosin, stopping at landmarks along the way. It is a good excuse to visit Museum Siam even for anyone who is not currently planning a trip to Isan.
Bangkok International Game Festival 2026

Board games take over TK Park for three days at Bangkok International Game Festival 2026. More than 30 game creators from Thailand and overseas are taking part, with new titles available to play before their official release alongside publishers, studios and designers.
The event is set up for newcomers as much as regular players. Visitors can sit down and try games, listen to talks from designers and publishers, or watch the Catan Thailand National Championship 2026. A lucky draw also has more than 100,000 baht worth of board games and prizes available during the festival.
Standard entry is free for TK Park members and visitors. Paid packages are optional and come with extras such as shopping vouchers and lucky-draw privileges, so there is no need to buy a package simply to see what is happening.
Thailand Printmaking Festival 2026

Thailand Printmaking Festival reaches its final weekend at Central Chidlom, but this is not an exhibition where visitors are expected to stare quietly at finished work. The festival follows printmaking from experimentation and technique through to the finished piece, with artists, studios and educational institutions from around Thailand involved.
There are live demonstrations and talks, a showcase for younger printmakers, a Zine Lab devoted to independent publishing and an interactive area where familiar materials are turned into printing tools. The Printmaker’s Market brings together work from 16 studios, making it possible to browse prints while also seeing how different studios approach the craft.
Saturday also has a neighbourhood element. The GC Experience takes participants outside to collect textures from around Chidlom before turning what they find into a zine. Visitors can also follow five Print Passport stations around the festival, layering stamps until they form one complete artwork. Admission to the festival is free.
Eat Play Root Fest

Eat Play Root Fest closes the weekend on a more communal note. The day is built around food, workshops and conversations exploring how people connect with themselves, other people and nature, drawing on ideas from Deep Ecology rather than operating like a conventional food festival.
Activities are spread across several themes. Some workshops focus on gratitude and reflection, while others use food and craft as a way to slow down and pay more attention to the people and environment around us. The programme finishes with a community dialogue about the kinds of neighbourhoods and cities people would like to live in.
The Community Meal is the centrepiece, although meal places are limited to the first 30 registered participants. Those places include a meal voucher and a Na Café drink voucher worth 150 baht. Even after the meal slots fill, visitors can still register for the wider festival and workshops subject to availability, and walk-ins can join activities during the day.
This weekend’s choices are a little more participatory than usual. Bangkok is offering plenty to look at, but the better options may be the ones that involve picking up a rubbish bag, rolling some dice, making a print or sitting down at a table with somebody new.
