MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur – Seventy nine members of electoral boards in Lanao del Sur backed out from their official duties on Monday, just before balloting for the first-ever parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) kicked off.
Provincial Election Supervisor Mohammad Nabil Mutia said the regular poll managers, who are mostly teachers, were promptly replaced by police personnel who were trained to oversee the precinct-level balloting process.
Mutia said the police personnel were constituted as special electoral boards and deployed to the various clustered precincts.
He added that the personnel replacement was seamless, hence, did not affect the overall conduct of the voting process.
“We still have to investigate the deeper reasons why they withdrew,” Mutia said.
