  • Stellantis South Africa is recalling 354 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 115 Jeep Wrangler vehicles due to separate safety critical instrument and airbag faults.
  • Affected Wranglers face total instrument panel blackouts, while Grand Cherokees suffer from faulty seat belt warning indicators that compromise occupant safety.
  • The National Consumer Commission (NCC) is monitoring the recall, urging owners to visit authorised dealerships for a complimentary software update.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has alerted the public to an urgent safety recall initiated by Stellantis South Africa, affecting hundreds of local vehicles. The recall concerns 354 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL Series) models and 115 Jeep Wrangler models sold across the country.

For the affected Jeep Wrangler vehicles, which were sold nationally between 2022 and 2024, a defect has been identified that causes the instrument panel cluster to suddenly go blank.

This fault prevents vital driving data such as the speedometer and critical warning lights from being displayed, significantly increasing the risk of an accident while operating the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the affected Jeep Grand Cherokee models, all distributed nationally during 2023, suffer from an airbag controller defect.

This flaw causes erratic illumination of the driver’s seat belt warning indicator, meaning the system may fail to properly alert the driver when unbuckled. This malfunction could reduce overall occupant protection during a crash.

Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to contact an authorised Jeep dealership to arrange for a free inspection and software update. The NCC is actively monitoring the recall in line with the Consumer Protection Act.
