Warrant of arrest for Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi? NPA sets record straight

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has dismissed claims that it has a warrant of arrest for KwaZulu-Natal top cop Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The confirmation comes after the rumours were circulated on social media at the weekend.

NO WARRANT OF ARREST FOR NHLANHLA MKHWANAZI

IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the information is false and is dismissed with the contempt it deserves.

Mamothame said these rumours are clearly started to disrupt and distract the work of IDAC, as well as the responsibilities that Mkhwanazi is discharging in the fight against crime.

“Members of society are urged to be vigilant against false information circulated in social media platforms, aimed at destabilising and discrediting law enforcement in the country,” he said.

KZN POLICE COMMISSIONER TAKES CRIME-FIGHTING EFFORTS NATIONALLY

Meanwhile, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has taken his crime-fighting efforts to a national level.

In April, Mkhwanazi was appointed to lead a national project aimed at organised crime.

“I’m still a provincial commissioner in the province. Literally, it means I will have to do an oversight role in fighting organised crime while having the responsibility of the province,” he told eNCA during the launch of a new SAPS forensic laboratory in Durban.
