A Gauteng traffic police official accused of raping a 26-year-old woman has been released on R3000 bail.

Tshwarelo Motala (36) appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, in connection with the alleged rape case.

According to reports, Motala met the complainant at their apartment building in Arcadia before the alleged incident took place.

It is alleged that the accused later persuaded the complainant to accompany him to another area within the building, where an altercation allegedly occurred.

Court documents allege that the complainant was sexually assaulted during the incident before managing to escape and return to her apartment.

The matter was reported to police on 23 April 2026, and the accused was arrested the following day at his residence.

During bail proceedings, the State did not oppose bail, arguing that the accused was not considered a flight risk.

The court granted Motala bail of R3000 and postponed the matter to 15 July 2026 for further investigations.
