ROCOMAMAS RESPONDS TO BACKLASH
Meanwhile, Rocomamas has responded to public criticism of its Fire Wings Challenge.
In a statement to TimesLIVE, the restaurant stated: “Participation is entirely voluntary and ultimately a matter of personal choice, with customers deciding whether to take part.
“Guests are informed about the nature and intensity of the challenge beforehand to ensure they can make an informed decision. As our restaurants are independently owned and operated, any terms, conditions and indemnity requirements are communicated at the store level.”
The Rocomamas Fire Wings Challenge takes place every Wednesday at selected restaurants around South Africa.
Participants are required to finish a plate of 10 chilli wings, spicy fries and a glass of Sprite in under 10 minutes. They are also required to wear disposable gloves for safety reasons.
Participants must sign a waiver before competing.
- This ensures the following:
- Participating at their own risk
- Consenting to the health risks, particularly in medical conditions like allergic reactions and sensitivity to spicy foods
- Absolving Rocomamas of any liability
- Wavering on taking legal action if something goes wrong.
